Rosemary Beach, FL – Charcoal Straight Pattern

The city of Rosemary Beach, FL was looking for an attractive and unique option to repave most of their streets in the city. Originally, pervious concrete was installed as an eco-friendly option which allowed storm-water and runoff to percolate through the concrete and back to Florida’s aquifer. Unfortunately, the pervious concrete became clogged with sediments, halting any percolation. In addition, the concrete began to fail, breaking down and creating a huge mess for the city to maintain.
Cobble Systems concrete pavers were a great match for the needs of Rosemary Beach. Cobble Systems’ Charcoal Straight pattern mimics the look of old world cobble while costing a fraction of a real granite or cobble stone road. Another benefit the city received was that by using EcoSystems Grout with 20-30 sand the street surface was permeable allowing water to pass through the joints and into the permeable base material. Another option they had, but did not choose, was to use EcoSystems Grout with an aggregate material, giving the joints a solid gravel look.
The process was very involved. The old pervious concrete had to be removed, crushed and recycled back down to a pebble and then re-installed as the pervious base material underneath the new pavement. A leveling course of permeable shell base was installed for the last couple inches to create the proper elevations and pitch, as well as to allow the runoff water that percolates through the Epoxy Grout to then pass down through the shell base, into the recycled crushed concrete sub-base, through the filter fabric and finally back into the parent earth.
Design Pavers Inc. was contracted by the city to complete the entire job, from demolition to installation. The job was completed in phases and the residents of Rosemary Beach, FL are ecstatic about their new roadways.
